See Benefits of Massage  section for more info.

About the Techniques used:

Deep Tissue: Best for giving attention to certain painful, stiff "trouble spots" in your body. Slow, deliberate strokes are used that focus pressure on layers of muscles, tendons, or other tissues deep under your skin.

Sports Massage: a targeted, therapeutic massage for athletes and active individuals to enhance performance, prevent injuries and accelerate recovery

Trigger Point: . Trigger points are localized, sensitive areas that can cause pain in other parts of the body when pressure is applied. By applying direct pressure to these points, often with the fingers, thumbs, or elbows, trigger point massage can reduce muscle stiffness, improve circulation, and ultimately relieve pain and discomfort.

Myofascial: Myofascial Release focuses on releasing muscular shortness or tightness.  A sustained pressure is applied to points of restriction, allowing the connective tissue to release.

Acupressure: Uses thumbs, fingers and palms to apply pressure to various points on the body to manipulate the flow of chi (qi) energy in the person receiving. These are the same points used in acupuncture, except fingers are used to stimulate the points instead of needles.   These points are located where the energy tends ot become blocked or congested possibly causing other health problems.

Myokinesthetic:  This technique identifies the root problem based upon posture imbalances and manipulates specific muscles to balance the nervous system, relieving pain and restoring mobility. Very helpful for headaches, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, frozen shoulder,  rotator cuff problems, shin splints and peripheral neropathy.

Ayurvedic Bodywork (Abhyanga): This type of massage is more focused on the type of oil used. Specific oils are used for different imbalances. A light, friction stroke is used to help the oil absorb in through the skin. Using the most balancing oil specifically for your constitution can help to increase vitality and bring more balance to physical, mental and emotional well-being.

Swedish:  The most common type of massage is Swedish massage therapy. It involves soft, long, kneading strokes, as well as light, rhythmic, tapping strokes, on topmost layers of muscles.  It is great for relaxing and reducing stress.

Energy Work:  The practitioners hands are placed light on or above the body helping to balance the systems of energy throughout the body. Using the chakra system and the subtle energy field around the body, this work aims to restore and realign the body's subtle vibrations.

Prenatal Massage: Helps to relieve the aches and pains of pregnancy and relaxes and benefits both mama and baby.  Done mostly in the side lying position, with a little time lying back on a wedge. Pressue can be adjusted to your individual preference.

Postnatal Massage: Massage for physical and emotional health after childbirth.

*If you would like to have specific oils used that will most benefit your constitution and what is out of balance, I recommend an Initial Ayurvedic Health Consult prior to incorporating Ayurvedic Bodywork.
